What is creativity?

This is a students from texas project, it has a few quotes about creativity and then clips of other students saying what they believe creativity is.

Quotes from the clip:

"Creativity is the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc originality, progressiveness, or imagination"

"Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties"

I think that these are basically saying that creativity is about not being hesitant to create something new and outside the box, but still having the ability to apply traditional ideas.

Creativity is putting original thoughts in to context

Plan
Intro- Define the term 'conventions' in relation to real texts and creativity.

Paragraph 1- Example
-Make a point (e.g 'We looked at the music style used in Vertigo...')

-Relate this to a creative example within own work (e.g 'It allowed us to apply the music conventions of a thriller to our own work...')

-Analyse (explain and assess how this convention was effective within own work)

Paragraph 2- Example
(same format as paragraph 1)

Paragraph 3- Example
(same format as paragraph 1 and 2)

Conclusion

question 2

To what extent has using conventions from real texts offered you creative opportunities?
plan-

Introduction: what real text is and an explanation

Paragraph one: for using real texts in research as they can give you ideas and inspiration.

Paragraph two: against using real texts as you could end up copying ideas and not producing your own, creating similar products.

Paragraph three: the creative opportunities is has given you in your own products, different real texts you have used and got ideas from.

Conclusion: has real texts given you creative opportunities in your products and if so should you continue to use them in your products to help you.

Essay, Question 1.

Question One, Ed Neely and Greg Field:

- Using the items such as genre, editing style and influences } related to music, song, narrative or or text.
- Had to reflect research and planing into post production to keep with the theme of the media text.
- Helped to also set the style for the editing from the y the research was reflected in production
- Helped to find other media texts from which to relate our videos to in terms of style.
It would effect the post preduction by influencing
- Talk about the services used to find the research and planning and the post production software and what allowed us to relflect these styles.
- Talk about how how our knoledge of the programs has effected how we can do different techniques and make us more capable to add effects and transitions.

In the initial part of our project during the research and planning period we had many decisions that later on had effected our final project and therefore the post-production part, such as with the decisions on the genre that were carried on till the final project, the genre we choose was the indie style. When we had looked into the real aspects of the media and media music videos we gained ideas onto how to go ahead with our final project and what features we were going to want included, for instance the use of having a band including we had seen this aspect in many different other music videos.
We had to reflect on most of our original ideas that we had come up with in the final media project to keep it in theme and genre. Our knowledge of the programs help to effect how we can do different techniques and made us more capable to add effects and transitions, programs we used were like final cut and photoshop as we used these to help develop the work.

Question 3

In the initial research and planning stages we used youtube to view real media texts to get ideas for our music videos. This influenced the style we used in the editing of the production. We were also influenced the genre's that we researched of on the internet using such sites as wikipedia which showed us generic conventions of the genre. We also used blogger to make a blog which allowed us to keep all our research in one place, this also allowed random viewers from the internet to comment and give their thoughts and feelings of our work and feed back to us. This construction criticism helps with the current roughcut. The points that would have been changed would be things like our soundtrack and editing style and sound effect, etc.

chalice

Throughout the media course we have used and developed our skills in many different areas of our digital technologies. The program final cut has played a large part and we have learnt to cut and edit footage as well as matching it to sound. These experiences slowly advanced our skills. We then learnt about use of cameras to produce our own footage, using different angles and techniques to pull together work. We matched our footage to sound whether it was diegetic or non diagetic and learnt about voice bridges. Editing was particularly important during our music video , gave us a chance to use filters and keep the lighting all similar so the clips flowed together.

Using the blog gave us advantages of feed back on our work from peers teachers and other bloggers on the net. Having feedback from a real audience really helped develop our ideas and give our group an idea of what an audience would expect. We also used the internet to do research and planning, discovering real media products through websites such as youtube and other various video promoting sites such as myspace. This played a key part to ensuring each of our coursework pieces were of a high standard.

We used photoshop to produce logos for our opening sequences, it gave up as opportunity to achieve a more proffessional final product and use layers which could be used to form motion in final cut.

Question 1 answered

The amount of research you do makes it easier when you come to doing your storyboards and animatic which will have a positive effect on your final project.
For instance it helps keep to the original idea without going off track
By keeping you storyboard with you while shooting gives you something to follow. Also a guideline when editing
Also by viewing and comparing

response to question 2

This question is asking us about the influence that past student work either others or our own have on our creative ability now. An example of a resource we used to research and plan was the Internet, in particular youtube. This website helped us to identify the specific set of generic conventions that recurs throughout our set genre. This is also an example of texts that influenced us throughout the project.
Once we had learnt how to pick out specific conventions we then applied these to our own work. This helped our creativity in a number of ways, one example is the fact that it helped us to outline our project parameters. However in this case it narrowed our creativity, but allowed us to be more realistic in our choices. Our creativity was also broadened, the conventions that we researched helped us to generate new and original ideas through inspiration from past texts.
The introduction of these conventions also brought new ideas to the table, new locations, new shot types and so on. Once we had picked up on and applied the conventions to our own work we had to decide whether to keep to these conventions or to go against them. We discovered that it is important to use a mixture to create a sense of originality and to maintain the visual relationship between the genre and the text. Using our first year work we know what is possible which benefits us because we can develop ideas to maximize potential.

Group evaluation answer question 4

To what extent have digital technologies helped to increase more creative opportunities?

During the duration of the course we have used various digital technologies, some of these include, final cut, photoshop, garageband and the internet. By using these it has enhanced our creative techniques and helped to make our projects more effective.

When creating our projects we used final cut, which enabled us to cut together our footage in a way that would be most appealing to the viewer. This therefore meant we could be more creative in the way we pieced it together with different lengths and speeds of cuts. Aswell as this we could specifically cut parts of our footage to bits in the song that go well.
This then meant we could use lyrics and visuals which is a good basis to increase the creativeness of our final product.

We also used photoshop most recently with the advertisement and digipak.

Evaluation Plan, Question 3.

Question Three,

Used the internet throughout the project for many different types of research;
-  Youtube looked at real texts
- Blogger to look into peer texts, and evaluative use
- Wikipedia and Myspace for inspiration.
To create our project we used certain systems such as;
- Final Cut we used to create and modify our video and projects.
- Photoshop to create logos and images for our ancillary tasks.
- Garageband was used to create our sound track for all of our projects.
From reviewing our peers texts and other real texts we were able to use their ideas to help and it developed our creative ideas.
- Youtube was used to see real sources such as music videos
- Blogger to see previous videos from previous years.

Digital Technologies

-Introduction
examples of digital technologies

-what new technologies have you experienced and how have you taken advantage of them

- Examples of what technologies in named projects

-How your projects like thriller have advanced your skills using these technologies

-How having grown confidence in these applications gives you more room for creative input , how it has enabled you to find new ways to be creative

-how technology may complicate simple tasks

Question 2 plan

Introduction referring to what real texts we used

Specific examples of what real texts we used and what conventions we noticed in early projects compared to more recent projects

What conventions we used and how we incorporated them referring to our projects

What creative opportunities we found after researching and how these helped us

Conclusion of what we'd do differently and what we thought we did well from early projects and how we have improved

Question 1

  • The more research and planning you do the easier it will be on your post production tasks because you have more to work with e.g. storyboards and animatics.
  • Also when doing your research and planning its important look at examples from youtube or student work so that your post production reflects conventions from real texts.
  • This also allows you to pick up on successful mixtures of visuals and sounds, and to also piece a video together in a orderly fashion.
  • Blogging is also an important part of research and planning as it helps to generate new ideas, and gives others a chance to draw inspiration from your ideas.
  • This can help when creating a soundtrack, editing and cutting.

Question 1

Question 1:

Introduction
Lists of things they researched on.
List of software you used (Final cut, Photoshop, Garage band)

Explain what the software was is used for and how you used
Show how your skills developed
Show how this impacted the post production
Use examples

Conclusion
Answer the question & summarise main points.

ESSAY ATTEMPT

When we started the music video project we started off by researching into different genres using websites like google, wikipedia and youtube. We identified the conventions of the genre which we had chosen to do our music video in the style of.

After we filmed and edited our footage, we added a warm filter to create a mellow atmosphere - we had found that this effect helped to elevate our video to another level which changed the footage from two-dimensional level to a stylized video, we identified that this is a frequent tool used in the indie genre.

Group Evaluation question plan- Qustion 3

Plan:

How have you utilized digital technologies throughout the media studies course and how have your skills when using them developed
The internet
  1. The Internet
  • First to look at general videos then used to view more genre specific videos.
  • Carry out detailed research into specific conventions.
  • Mood boards were better developed.
2. Final cut
  • We started with basic techniques but then advanced by using these techniques in a more appropriate way.
  • We learnt ways to improve our projects, for example adding filters.
  • Our work flow efficiency increased throughout the duration of the course.
3. Photoshop
  • See final cut
  • We learnt ways to improve our projects but also to have a consistent theme throughout the pieces.
4. Garageband
  • See final cut
5. Equipment
  • We have used cameras and tripods throughout our projects these skills have developed to an extent.

Question 4 - Shaun & Emily

Question 4: To what extent have digital technologies helped to increase more creative opportunities?

Introduction:
What digital technologies used? Blogger, Final Cut, Photoshop, Youtube, Wikipedia, Google

  • Helps to expand and allows you to experience more examples out there - For example on youtube to view professional or student examples to see what is possible to achieve.
  • Is just another medium of expression/ performance - could have come up with a performance to work with a song, but filming it is a simpler way
  • Editing softwares such as photoshop and final cut are very complex, and unless you know them very well they can inhibit your edit and finished product can be very basic and bland.

  • Do technologies limit your ability to create the idea you have in your head? Knowledge of photoshop/final cut - basic (effects achievable limited)

Essay Attempt

During the development of the music video we used digital technologies such as Blogger, Final Cut, Photoshop, Youtube, Wikipedia, Google.

We used each digital technology to do specific tasks, for instance we mainly used websites such as Wikipedia to research and graphic applications such as Photoshop to edit images. Our skills gradually developed in using the course. This allowed us to do more with the sof
